Rick and Bubba's Guide to the Almost Nearly Perfect Marriage

Radio comics Rick Burgess and Bill “Bubba” Bussey have returned to the publishing world with their newest release. Rick & Bubba’s Guide to the Almost Nearly Perfect Marriage is a quick, easy to read collection of topics relevant to most couples. The forty-five chapters read like short humor pieces or columns. In this collection, the authors address such topics as: finding a mate, conflict, shopping, money and debt, respect, pregnancy, and grief and tragedy. They do this with the humor and style they have become known for. This is a pretty funny book.

That being said, the use of the word “guide” in the title should not be taken literally. While the book is funny, the advice is often not quite grounded in reality nor centered in the Word of God. It plays into the cultural stereotype that all wives blame their husbands for everything, thus belittling and devaluing the role and position of the husband as the head of the wife. While the Bible clearly teaches this position, Rick and Bubba do precious little to correct and teach their readers. There are other examples, but this is one of the most glaring.

If you want a decent laugh, I can recommend this book. If you are looking for guidance and advice for your marriage relationship, I think you should look elsewhere.

Maybe I Should Get a Mac

The last time I bought a computer, I seriously considered switching from a PC to a Mac. I just could not justify the cost. I have a couple of friends with pretty new MacBooks that have had some problems, so I was sure I had made the right decision. Until I saw this video. It is in French and I do not speak French. It does not matter. The message gets through. This is something that my PC definitely cannot do.

Guacamole

Unless you live in a cave on a desert island, you are aware that in a few days the NFL will crown its annual champion. Across the country there will be celebrations large and small where friends gather to cheer for their favored team and enjoy their favorite party foods. There will be chicken wings, little smokies, meatballs, various chips, and dips. My favorite party food is, without a question, chicken wings. My favorite dip is guacamole. Until the last two or three years, I hated guacamole. I had tried it. I found it to be disgusting. It had absolutely no redeeming value. But tastes change. I was willing to try it again. Now I love guacamole. It is one of my favorite dips and taco/fajita toppings. This has been my tribute to guacamole. Below is Rhett and Link's tribute to guacamole. Their tribute is funnier and more clever. Mine love for guacamole is at least as sincere as their love is. I hope you enjoy it. In the comments, tell us what your favorite Super Bowl party food is.

Joke Contest Winner

We have a winner! It is basically a winner by default, since there was only one joke submitted. You can go to the comments in the original post to read it. Congratulations to Chris for his bad joke, and I do mean bad!

This Is High Tech?

This past weekend wrapped up the consumer electronics show in Las Vegas. It is an extravaganza of all things electronic and high tech.

A number of states and municipalities have made it illegal to use a mobile phone while driving without using a hands-free device. Do you want to use your phone but don't have a hands-free device? Did you forget to charge your bluetooth device? Are you too cheap to upgrade to a bluetooth enabled phone? The Cell-Mate may be the answer for you.

This may be the most stupid mobile phone accessory ever produced. What do you think? Would you use one of these? For those of you still wondering, no, I would not.

The Church Office

I like the TV show The Office. I think it is really funny. I, like most of us, have worked with individuals like those on the show. I may work with some now. I will never share that information. Early this year, I was at a conference and the church had produced a video clip based on the show. Check it out. I think you will enjoy it.
